"Dinosaur feet and Dinosaur food" field trip

28 May 2006 - duration 4 hours. Morning walk near Scarborough.

Led by Nigel Whittington & Stuart Jones of the Hull Geological Society.

Further information: During the Middle Jurassic the area was a complex and rapidly changing environment - at times there were moderately stable river channels, at other times rapidly migrating meandering channels. Areas between the river channels sometimes dried out, but were also subject to catastrophic floods. In this environment a wide range of plant life flourished and dinosaurs walked (and we presume the herbivorous species ate the plants). The area shows remarkable preservation of both the structures generated by this fluvial environment, and internationally important plant fossil sites. There are also many individual dinosaur footprints and occasional trackways preserved
