Course starts on Wednesday 22nd April 2009 and will probably consist of four Wednesday evenings from 7-30pm until 9-30pm at the University of Hull, Department of Geography and three half-day field meetings at weekends. The fieldwork dates will be discussed at the first meeting and will depend on appropriate tides - so please bring your diary with you. The course will probably end on Wednesday 8th July.

Collecting rocks, minerals and fossils is an exciting way to study the history of our world and is a rewarding hobby in itself. This course will show you
 - what to look for
 - where to go
 - how to collect safely
 - how to take care of your collection
 - where you can get help and advice on identifications

No previous experience or knowledge is required. It is an excellent course for beginners and experienced collectors will learn how to curate of geological materials to recognised standards and obtain knowledge of local sites.

Students will be ask to keep a record of their fieldwork and either prepare a small collection of specimens or write a report on an aspect of the course for assessment.
