Geology Courses 2009/10
By Mike Horne F.G.S.
Rocks and Fossils of the Yorkshire Coast

- led by tutors Roger Sutcliffe and Mike Horne to run over the summer of 2009, the dates of the meetings will be decided once the 2009 tide tables have been published. The course will include four half days of fieldwork to study the rocks of the Early Jurassic, Middle Jurassic, Cretaceous and the Quaternary. We will see how changes to sea level and climate have produced the diversity of rocks and fossils we now see on our coastline. This course was run in the Summer of 2008 for the first time. In 2009 we will visit different sites.
Course starts on Wednesday 8th July 2009 in Hull or Whitby (whichever is most convenient for you) and is followed by four field trips at weekends. We plan to visit Whitby and Saltwick Nab on 12th July, Cayton Bay on 25th July, Danes Dyke and Sewerby on 8th August and Skipsea and Holderness on 22nd August.
