Forensic Geology

(tutor - Mike Horne FGS, Hull University)

research projects

The scenario is that samples of mud have been found in the vehicle belonging to a suspect in a murder investigation - your task (if you choose to accept it) it to find ways of caharacterising the mud that would help prove its provenance, and thus show whether the suspect has been near the crime scene or not.

Each project also has a secondary geological behind it - to find whether one of the samples has been derived from one of the other known samples.

When assessing the research project results I will be looking for a forensic approach to the research with an audit trail, generic report writing skills and assessing the science used as well. This is real research and there are no "right answers".
