Constitution.

Adopted 21st November 1999

1. Title.

The Group to be known as East Yorkshire RIGS Group

2. Aims.

a) To promote the recognition of Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological Sites (RIGS) and their conservation in the Watsonian Vice-County of East Yorkshire.

b) To identify the criteria for the selection of RIGS in the area.

c) To identify , survey and record Sites of Geological and Geomorphological Importance (RIGS) within the area.

d) To provide copies of a list of RIGS in the area to all interested parties. Details of the ownership will only be given with the permission of the owner.

e) To promote the scientific and educational value and appropriate use of RIGS.

f) To affiliate to the Association of U K RIGS Groups.

g). To co-operate with adjacent RIGS groups and the Association.

h) To co-operate with organisations , clubs and societies that have similar aims.

i) To actively conserve and protect registered RIGS within the area , in particular through identification within the Development Planning System.

j) To work with landowners and managers of sites in promoting the conservation and management of RIGS sites.

3. Membership.

a) Representatives of all groups, organisations and societies with an interest in geological conservation and education, along with local authorities, quarry owners and other conservation groups within the area are entitled to membership. The parent organisations may be asked to pay an affiliation fee, set by the Annual General Meeting, to provide funds for the day-to-day running of the Group.

b) Individuals with an interest in conserving geological sites may also be members of the Group. They may be asked to pay a membership fee as set by the Annual General Meeting.

c) The membership list may be kept on card index and computer, in accordance with the data protection act. The list of names (but not addresses) of individuals and organisations will be made available to third parties on request

4. Organisation.

a) The Executive Officers of the Group shall be :- Chair, Secretary and Treasurer will be elected at an Annual General Meeting . Other Officers with specific roles may also be elected at the A.G.M. All Officers shall be members of the Group.

b) The Group shall meet at least 2 times a year .

c) The Annual General Meeting shall be held in November.

d) Two weeks notice of each meeting shall be given to all members, by post, e-mail or telephone. Representatives of the National RIGS organisation and neighbouring Groups shall also be invited to attend.

e) The Officers of the Group may make minor decisions on behalf of the Group between meetings, but these should be brought to the attention of the next Group Meeting.

f) Minutes of meetings shall be kept by the Secretary, and sent to members and the National RIGS Officer, within 2 months of the meeting.

5. Finances.

a) The Group may hold funds necessary for the day-to-day running of the Group or for defined temporary conservation projects. It is a "not-for-profit" organisation.

b) The Group may seek financial funding and/or sponsorships to support its programme.

c) All monies (above £20 petty cash) to be deposited in a named savings or bank Account with two signatures out of three required to withdraw from the account.

d) The Group’s accounts are to be audited annually for a statement to be presented by the Treasurer at the Annual General Meeting.

e) If the Group ceases to exist, the funds shall be donated to the National Association of UK RIGS Groups or some other geological conservation organisation.

6. Changes to this Constitution

a) The Constitution may be reviewed and revised as necessary. Four weeks notice and details of any proposed changes shall be sent to all members.

b) The Constitution will have to be amended if the Group wishes to employ people, hold large funds or own geological sites.
