ELQs and the future of Life Long Learning.
You may have heard that the government wishes to withdraw funding for students who are studying for Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQs). This is going to be phased in. BUT for 2008-9 the University of Hull Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) has decided that this change will not affect the fees charge to students enrolling for "Adult Education" classes which are part of the University Foundation Award Programme (UFA). There will however be a slight increase in fees to cover increased running costs and inflation.
The CLL has decided, though, that there will have to be a minimum number of students studying for a higher qualification than they already hold ("non-ELQs") enrolled on the course for it to run. If you have already taken part in some UFA courses but have not completed a "final piece of work" to obtain your Foundation Award you are still a "non-ELQ".
So this means that you should try to enroll before the course starts to ensure that it runs. I know that a lot of you are used to enrolling on the first night of the course - but now if you wait until then you could be disappointed, because the course may have been canceled if too few students who have pre-enrolled.
To avoid disappointment enroll now, please!
But do not panic - if you have only just found out about the course and it is close to the start date or has even just started - do ask: you may still be able to enroll.
